2023 CSA Season Week Seven

July 18, 2023

Here we are at Week Seven of the CSA Season, and can you believe it’s already the middle of July?! Where has the time gone? We hope you’re all having a wonderful summer, and finding ways to stay cool in the heat!

This week’s box!

Special Announcements

Please remember to check your name off the list, so we know you got your share. If your name is not on the list, please don’t take a box! We only pack enough for those listed, so if you think your name should be there and it isn’t, reach out to the farm at [email protected] and we’ll get back to you the next business day.

We are delivering pre-purchased blueberry flats this week, so you might see some covered with white paper. These have all been paid for, so if your name is not on it, please do not take any blueberries. For those that did purchase a flat, double-check the name on the label to ensure it was meant for you. Taking the wrong flat has caused a lot of confusion in the past, so we just want to help keep things smooth this year. Thank you all so much for your patience! We appreciate you.

We have blueberries again this week!

We’ve partnered with Berkey’s Blueberries again this season, and you will have wonderful blueberries in your box this week. Berkey’s is a family-run organic blueberry farm based out of Lebanon, and we’re pleased we were able to offer you their blueberries this week.

The flat orders did close last week so we could let them know what we needed, as they had a limited supply to offer us this year. If you aren’t able to get a flat from us this time, don’t worry! Click on the link above to connect directly to Berkey’s Blueberries or look for them on Saturdays at the Lane County Farmer’s Market if you’re in the Eugene area.

Let me know if you’re going on vacation!

We understand things come up and people have vacations, especially in summer, so we’re more than willing to accommodate your schedule if we can. If you’re going on vacation or unable to pickup, we can send the box to a different location, donate the share to Food for Lane County, or issue a credit toward next season’s share. Please make sure to let me know at least 7 days before your regularly scheduled share. (If you pick up on Tuesday, but you’re changing to Friday that week, please tell me no later than the previous TUESDAY.) We plan for harvest and pull the lists well in advance, so to keep things going smooth, we’re unable to process requests made after that 7-day deadline.

I will be in South Africa the last half of August, so please get your vacation days for Weeks 10 through 13 (August 8 through September 4) to me by August 1st so I can get them entered. If vacation requests for that time frame are submitted after August 1st, they will unfortunately NOT be processed. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Great news! Our printer is fixed!

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know technology has been a bit of a nightmare this year, and we haven’t gotten your season mailing out to you yet. But our printer is finally fixed, and I’m hoping to get them in the mail by the end of the week. They’ll contain your season welcome letter (it’s only 8 weeks late), your weekly schedule, and the site info. For those enrolled in the Extended Season, you’ll get those schedules as well.

We’ll also be mailing out the August balance-due statements with your welcome packet for those that still have a balance on their account. For those paying monthly, remember, the due date is the 1st of the month. For those on the half now, half later program, the payment is due in full by August 15th, and for those who still haven’t paid on their account, please make sure to note that payment is due upon receipt. If that’s you, and you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and let me know!

We’ve had some truly generous donors this year, so we do have financial assistance available for those who need it. If you’re having trouble with a payment or facing a financial hardship for whatever reason, shoot me an email at [email protected], and we’ll talk about how we can help with your share.

The Overbaugh boys harvesting carrots

What’s going on at the farm?

We’re harvesting carrots! It’s always fun to see the farmers on their tractors, hard at work, and today it was the three Overbaugh boys, out there getting it done. Shannon’s been busy in the greenhouse, getting more crops available for transplanting, and our crew has been working hard in the tomatoes and harvesting all the other crops you get to enjoy in your CSA. We’re swimming in strawberries for market, and soon for CSA, and we think we’ll be able to offer strawberry flats later this summer. The corn is still short yet, but we hope you’re as excited for it as we are, because when it’s ready, it will be delicious!

What’s in your box this week?

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Broccoli
  • Beets
  • Onions
  • Zucchini
  • Basil
  • Lettuce

What’s we’re making:

  • Do you love the taste of tomato and basil together? Pick up some sungold cherry tomatoes at our farmers’ markets and try this Cherry Tomato Pasta!

We hope you’re all enjoying the warm weather, finding ways to get out on the water if that’s what you enjoy, and eating delicious food. We’re so pleased you’ve allowed us to tag along on your food journey this year, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.

Many blessings,

Chelsea and your Winter Green farmers
