Welcome to the Winter Green Farm Holiday Box!

November 21, 2025

We are so pleased to have you with us for our first holiday box! Below are some things to know about the holiday boxes this weekend. Thank you all so much for your support of the farm!

  • Winter Green Farm – Friday, November 21st to Monday, November 24th – 89762 Poodle Creek Road in Noti – before sunset

Where you will pickup is noted on the information you received by email as well as the invoice from your order. Please make sure to only take a box if your name is on the list, as we only packed enough for those listed at each site. Last-minute changes to your delivery site will not be possible.

Please remember that we will not be available by phone during the pickup hours. If you have an issue, please email the farm at folks@wintergreenfarm.com and we’ll get back to you by the next business day (Monday or Tuesday depending on your pickup option).

Note for those who only ordered bulk vegetables: Not everybody ordered a holiday box! Those who ordered bulk vegetables only are highlighted on the list with a note that they do not have a holiday box. This should also match your emailed share information. Please make sure you do not take a holiday box if you have not already ordered one! Thank you so much for your support of the farm!

Tips and tricks for a smooth pickup!

  • Help us keep everyone healthy by only touching your own share.
  • Don’t forget to check your name off the list, so we know you got your share!
  • Keep an eye on your emails for information from the farm! Let us know if you aren’t getting them, as that’s how we communicate with you!
  • Only take a box if your name is on the list. We only pack enough for the members listed, so if your name isn’t there, please check your records and contact the farm at folks@wintergreenfarm.com.
  • Please do not take any extras at the delivery site unless your name is on them. We appreciate your cooperation!
  • Shares are packed in wax boxes. You can take these with you (this is different than our regular CSA season).

Please respect our crew and other CSA members!

Please remember to respect our crew and other CSA members by taking out everything you bring with you and not leaving any trash, checking your name off the list, and being kind and courteous to your site hosts and other CSA members. It’s also especially important to only arrive during the pickup windows. We will only be at the delivery locations during those specified pickup windows, so making sure you arrive within that time frame is so important.

Thank you so much for your kind consideration!

Let the farm know as soon as possible if you miss your box!

If you end up not being able to get your box, missed shares do come back to the farm. However, we will only hold them until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. All missed shares will need to be picked up at the farm. There will be no delivery options. Any boxes not picked up by Wednesday, November 26th (before dark) will be donated to Food for Lane County.

Please check your name off the list when you pick up your box!

Please check your name off the list when you pick up your box so we can confirm you were able to pick up your share! If your name is not on the list, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE A BOX. If your name is not on the list and you think it should be, please double-check your delivery information, then email the farm at folks@wintergreenfarm.com, and we’ll reach out to you the next business day to make arrangements if possible. If you have someone pick up your share for you and they are not getting our emails, please make sure to remind them of this as well.

Please only take extras if you purchased them ahead of time!

There are bulk vegetable bags and boxes that will be included at these delivery sites. All of these have been purchased ahead of time and will have a label on them. Please do not take anything you have not paid for that doesn’t ALSO have your name on the label.

What’s in your box this weekend:

  • Delicata squash
  • Onions
  • Leeks
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Parsley
  • Kale (variation of kale may vary)

Some sites only:

  • Pie pumpkin
  • Kabocha squash

Both can be used to make pies. However, we didn’t have enough of either for everybody, so it’s one or the other. But don’t worry–both are delicious!

Handy Tips:

  • Winter Squash: Store winter squash in a cool, dry, dark place with good ventilation. They should keep for up to a month or more, depending on the variety. You can also incorporate winter quash into a beautiful arrangement for your fall table. They won’t keep quite as long at room temperature, but if they are sitting on your table, you might be inspired to eat them quickly. Once squash has been cut, you can wrap the pieces in plastic and store them in the refrigerator for five to seven days. To bake winter squash, cut it in half, scoop out the seeds and pulp, then place the halves on a baking dish filled with a half-inch of water, cut-side down. You can also bake without the water, just lightly grease a baking sheet or use parchment paper. Bake squash at 350 degrees until halves are completely soft and just starting to collapse. This could take 45 minutes to an hour, sometimes more, depending on the size of the squash. Remove squash from the oven, fill with butter, seasoning, or filling, and serve them in the shell. Winter squash can also be substituted in baked goods. Try using it instead of pumpkin or sweet potatoes in dessert recipes. While the oven is hot, try roasting the seeds after mixing them with a little oil and seasoning of your choice.
  • Leeks: Place dry, unwashed leeks in a plastic bag and store them in a drawer of your refrigerator. Leeks will store well for up to two weeks. To clean leeks for cooking, trim the roots, remove the green tops (which can be used in soup stock) and peel off the outer leaf layer, removing any hidden dirt. Cut leeks in half lengthwise and chop. Most recipes only use the white portion. Leeks can be substituted for any recipe calling for onions. They develop the best flavor when cooked or sautéed slowly.
  • Potatoes: We wash the “field soil” off of your potatoes, but scrub them well and cut off any sprouts or green skin when you’re ready to cook. No need to peel. Store them in a cool, dark, dry place such as a loosely closed paper bag in a cupboard or closet. They should keep for weeks at room temp, or longer if at ideal temp of 40-50 degrees. Potatoes are great boiled, mashed, fried, or baked. Use them in soups, hash browns, salads, and stews.
  • Carrots: Cut or twist carrot tops off before storing in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. They will keep for several weeks. Clean the carrots well before eating by scrubbing with a vegetable brush under running water. Do not peel unless the carrots are damaged, as much of the nutrients are very close to the skin. Eat carrots raw in sticks, rounds, julienned, or grated. You can also add slices or chunks to soups, stews, or casseroles. Carrots are also delicious lightly steamed or sautéed, and garnished with butter or olive oil and fresh herbs. Try them grated with oil, lemon juice, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Kale: Wash kale leaves well by dipping them in a sink of cool water several times to flush out soil and garden stowaways. Remove the stems from the leaves by folding leaf in half lengthwise, and stripping or slicing away the thick stems. Baby or tender young leaves may be cooked, stem and all. Steam mature kale leave approximately 4-5 minutes, depending on age, size, and amount in steamer. When it’s limp but still retains texture, it’s ready. Wrap kale in a damp towel or in a plastic bag to refrigerate, preferably in a hydrator drawer, for up to one week. For long-term storage, kale can be frozen. Wash, de-stem, and blanch leaves for two minutes. Rinse in cold water, drain, and pack into airtight containers, and freeze.
  • Pie Pumpkin: Store your pie pumpkin in a cool, dry, dark place with good ventilation until you are ready to use it. Bake pumpkins in half, with pulp seeds scooped out, cut-side down on a baking dish filled with a half inch of water at 350 degrees, until soft and collapsing. Remove them from the oven and fill with butter and seasonings.

You can still donate a box!

Our orders to receive a box have been filled and packed, but we’re still accepting donations! With everything going on with the government shutdown this year, there are so many families who will be struggling this holiday season. Winter Green Farm has donated 100 boxes to families in need and you can, too! By purchasing a donation box, you’ll help us cover costs and provide food to either a SNAP recipient or Food for Lane County just in time for the holidays.

You can place your order on our website by clicking here.

I work from home a lot in the afternoons, and we’re out on the farm throughout the day. While you can always call and leave a message, the best way to reach us is through email. (Though we will not be available during evenings or weekends.) I am typically in the office or around the farm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. Our office is closed on Wednesdays. Since we are in the off season, I will also be working from home a lot of those mornings and be reached by email.

(Please note: we will NOT be available during the pickup windows, so you’ll need to make sure you know how to reach us ahead of time. Any issues picking up a box if you don’t see your name on the list will be handled the next business day.)

We’re so happy to provide you with a holiday box this year! A lot of time and effort goes into farming and growing your vegetables at Winter Green Farm, and we could not do it without you or our very generous donors who helped provide food for families affected by the government shutdown this month.

Many blessings,

Chelsea and your Winter Green farmers
