We’ve reached the middle of May!

May 19, 2023

Spring is in full gear, and the beginning of the CSA season is right around the corner! The energy here at the farm is buzzing as we continue to work hard to get everything in the ground and ready to go home with you! We hope you’re all out there enjoying this beautiful weather on our way to summer!

Share information is on its way to you!

With the first delivery right around the corner, share information is on its way to you through email. Keep an eye out for it! It will have your account info, your delivery schedule and site information, as well as some important notes to keep in mind when you pick up your share each week. When you get it, look it over and let me know if there have been any changes to your account information, so we can keep you as up to date as possible! For our site hosts, it will have some particulars for you as well.

A hard copy will be going out in the mail soon, but our copier is ancient by technology standards, and finally quit on us not so long ago. Fear not! Another has been ordered and is on its way, but we’re waiting until it returns to be able to send you the share packets in the mail. Those might not arrive until June, so keep an eye on your email so you know how to plan for this season.

First deliveries:

  • Tuesday, June 6
  • Wednesday, June 7
  • Friday, June 9
  • Saturday, June 10
  • Sunday, June 11

Extended Season Half Shares (12-week program), your shares will begin the following week and alternate from there. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] or give us a call at 541-935-1920.

We do still have shares available!

Do you know someone interested in a CSA share? Are you still on the fence about joining us this year? Let us know! Send friends to our website (wintergreenfarm.com) and share our posts on social media! You can find us on Facebook (Winter Green Farm) or on Instagram (@wintergreenfarm). Our membership is a little low this year, and it’s amazing members like you who keep the CSA going, so any help and referrals is greatly appreciated!

Last year was hard for everyone. The weather was wet and cold well into June, so getting food in the ground on time was difficult, if not impossible for some veggies. Then, we had some more setbacks when the quality didn’t turn out the way we hoped. Weather, ground squirrels, bugs–all added to working short-staffed–last year was tough, and we know the quality of some of the veggies wasn’t up to our usual standards. While this is all part of being in the CSA and can be an unfortunate risk, we do understand the concern and frustration, and hope we can make it up to you and keep your loyalty with the farm. We’d miss you if you go!

But this year is looking so much better! The weather did play games a little bit, but we were able to seed a bunch of veggies in our greenhouse. Now it’s overflowing! It’s bright, it’s warm, and we’re working as hard as we can to get as many delicious veggies ready for the first delivery in a few weeks! Fingers crossed this year the quality will be back to our usual standards!

We’re back at the King Market in Portland this week!

As the days get warmer and more and more produce is ready to harvest, we’re able to head back up to Portland for the King Market this Sunday! We have strawberries and greens, and all sorts of early-season veggies, but hurry! The strawberries have a tendency to go fast! I don’t know about you, but mine hardly make it home.

The King Market is located at NE Wygant Street and NE 7th Avenue in Portland on Sundays, and they’re open from 10am to 2pm. We would love to see you there!

We’re also at the Lane County Farmers’ Market in Eugene on Saturdays at 8th and Oak from 9am to 3pm. Come on down and say hi!

What’s going on at the farm?

So much! The crew is harvesting as much as possible, and we have strawberries again! The greenhouses are overflowing, and the tomatoes that have taken over the back of the green house will be going in the ground on Monday. Now that the sun’s out and the weather is warm, we can push forward and get in the groove for this season. Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, even the lambs the happy to play in the sun. In just a few more weeks, we’ll be back in the full swing of things. We hope you’re as excited as we are!

This year has gone by fast, and spring is no exception! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of May, and we are so excited to be on this food journey with you! We hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy that sunshine!

Many blessings,

Chelsea and your Winter Green farmers
