Winter is Well Underway!

January 27, 2023

Can you believe it’s February already? The weather has been all over the place–rainy, warm, then cold again–but it’s not stopping us for gearing up for the upcoming season! We are so excited to get you as many veggies as we can this year, and it’s already shaping up to be a great year! We hope your winter is going well.

Don’t forget to sign up for the 2023 CSA Season!

The 2023 CSA Season will be here before you know it, and we can’t wait to get you our delicious Winter Green veggies every week again! If you’ve already let me know you’re interested in joining us again this season, check your email! You should have an invoice that incorporates the cost of the share, your 2023 Returning Member discount, and any credits from the 2022 season.

If you’re a returning member and you haven’t sent me an email yet letting me know you’d like to join us for the 2023 CSA Season, it’s not too late! Just reply to this email or let me know at [email protected]. I’ll get the order set up for you and all you have to do is sit back and let it show up in your inbox!

If you’re new to Winter Green Farm, we would love to have you with us this season! Just jump on over to our website and purchase your share! We do work with SNAP and the Double-Up Food Bucks program, and due to the gracious generosity of our members, we also have financial assistance available to those who might need it.

We’re looking for a site host for the Wingate Drive/Bedford Way area!

Tianna and Travis, our amazing site hosts, have let us know they will be moving from their Wingate Street home. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to work with us for the 2023 CSA Season. We truly appreciate everything they’ve done for us this season, and it’s been a pleasure to have them as site hosts. Thank you, Tianna and Travis, for stepping up this year and donating your time and home this season! It’s been wonderful working with you!

If you’re interested in becoming a Winter Green Farm site host in the Wingate Street or Bedford Way area (over near Oakway and Coburg Road), please let us know! We would love to hear from you!

We’re back at the Lane County Farmers’ Market in February!

Every year after the CSA season, we take a little break for the holidays. But don’t worry! You don’t have to wait until June to get your Winter Green veggies. We’ll be back at the Lane County Farmers’ Market in Eugene on Saturdays in February! We’ll have lettuces, burdock, brussel sprouts, radishes, and so much more. Come see us while the market is open and get your fill of greens, or just say hi! Either way, we would love to see you.

We’re hiring at Winter Green Farm!

One of the best things about working for Winter Green Farm is the people. Everyone here is hardworking, kind, compassionate, fun, and absolutely amazing to work with. If you or someone you know is interested in working on the farm with great people doing interesting work, hop on over to our website and fill out an application! We’re looking for both full and part time work, Monday through Friday for the farm, weekends for the vendor position. It’s hard, but rewarding work, and we would love to meet with you if you’d like to be part of our team!

The seeds are getting started for the 2023 season!

This week, our team has been hard at work getting all our veggies planted for the upcoming season. We’ve put in green onions, walla onions, pac choi, and spring peas, among others. We can’t wait for them to go into the ground so we can taste them, but in the meantime, they’re hard at work germinating in the greenhouse.

The first lambs of the season are finally here!

But seeds aren’t the only things growing right now! Yesterday, we welcomed our first set of twins as the first lambs of 2023! Right now, we have twenty-three pregnant ewes, and we’re expecting around forty lambs. Now it’s just a waiting game! Don’t worry, I’ll keep posting pictures, because they’re so dang cute!

We’d love to hear about what you’re up to in the off-season, what you’re making, and especially what types of recipes you’d like to see before we kick off the season. We hope your winter is treating you well, and we’re looking forward to seeing what 2023 has in store.

Many blessings,

Chelsea and your Winter Green farmers
