The 2022 CSA Season Starts Next Week!

May 31, 2022

June is finally here, and you know what that means! The 2022 CSA Season is right around the corner! That’s right, we start our CSA season next week! We are so excited to get this food journey going for yet another year, and we can’t even tell you how much we appreciate you letting us tag along.

Quick Note of Clarification:

Last week, I sent out a mailing with hard-copy information, including delivery site info and a delivery schedule. Those mailings took a few weeks of preparation, so if you’ve changed details to your account in the last few weeks, the mailing may not be up to date. I’m happy to email you an updated schedule, or mail another hardcopy upon request.

For those who received the Extended Share with regular pickup on Tuesday or Wednesday, the last five weeks of the season (three weeks for Extended Half share) will be on Sundays for Portland, and Friday or Saturday for Eugene. Updated schedules for Weeks Twenty to Twenty-Four will go out as the season gets closer.

What to Expect from this Year’s CSA:

Each week, we’ll fill your boxes with as much yummy produce as we can. Due to the weather, the first few boxes are always lighter, but don’t be discouraged! As the season goes on, we will more than make up for it. We’ll send out estimate emails on Mondays and Thursdays while the crew is harvesting so you can plan your grocery lists, but please keep in mind these emails are just estimates! The weekly blog that goes out on Tuesdays after the first packing day of the week will contain pictures of that week’s share, along with a list of what’s included, tips on storing and preparing those veggies, and recipes to help inspire you in the kitchen. (Please note, Friday’s box is not always the same as Tuesday’s box, but don’t worry. We’re keeping excellent notes. If we don’t get you something one week, we’ll get you the next time that veggie is available.)

When you go to pick up your boxes at the delivery site, please remember to be respectful to your site hosts and their property. They work with us on a volunteer basis, and have graciously donated their driveways and porches to make things more convenient for our members. There will be a list of names for those who have shares that week. The half share programs alternate weeks, so it will be especially important to read the list and make sure to check off your name. If your name is not on the list, please don’t take a box!

The Standard Half Share program (10 weeks) will begin Week One (June 7-June12) and the Extended Half Share program (12 weeks) will begin Week Two (June 14 to June 19). They will continue every other week until the season ends.

Let Us Know Early About Vacation Days!

We know summer is the best time for us all to go on vacation, and it can be super easy to let those dates you’ll be out of town slip your mind. Let me know early if you’re going to miss a delivery! Last year, we started our 7-days notice policy, but we were pretty flexible about making changes. Unfortunately, this year, we will need to be strict with that policy. Any changes requested after that 7-day deadline will not be able to go into effect for that delivery. Being strict with this guideline not only helps our crew know what to harvest, but it helps us not miss boxes on packing days and minimizes any last-minute confusion.

Another reason we’re being so strict this year is I’m getting married this summer! We’ve done our best to minimize the time I’ll be out of the office for the wedding and the honeymoon this year, but since I will be gone and Chris, Shannon, and the crew will be working the farm, I’ll need to make sure I have everything ready to go a week in advance so we don’t miss anything while I’m gone.

I know this can be an inconvenience, and for that we apologize. But we hope you understand and are willing to work with us to make this season as smooth as possible. Let us know as soon as you know! You can fill out a vacation request on our website by going to our CSA FAQ section and filling out the form. The sooner you know, the better!

We Say Goodbye to the Hollywood Farmers Market

As some of you may be aware, over the past several months, we have been struggling to find and employ staff to run the booth at the Hollywood Market. With increasing fuel costs, and an overall increase in expenses (labor, supplies, etc.), we sadly feel that we can no longer service this market. This was truly a hard decision for us. But, we have to look at the bottom line of the farm’s future in the years to come.

You can read Chris and Shannon’s full goodbye here. Thank you so much for all the love and support the Hollywood Market and our members there have shown us. We’ll miss seeing you on Saturdays.

Come See Us This Saturday!

Winter Green Farm is having our Open House Potluck this Saturday, June 4, 2022, from noon to 4pm. Bring your favorite dish, grab your family and friends, and come say hello! You don’t have to be a CSA member to join us. In fact, we would love to see new faces along with our current members, and welcome them into the Winter Green Farm family! We’ll have hay rides, a scavenger hunt, good food, great people, and lots of fun! We hope to see you there!

We Still Have Standard Shares Available!

Haven’t purchased your share yet? Know someone who’s been curious about joining the CSA, but hasn’t reserved a share? It’s not too late! We still have Standard Full Shares available! Hop on over to our website and reserve a share now, or sign up at the potluck this weekend!

Now that the weather is cooperating, we’re staying busy, busy, busy here at the farm! Lots of veggies being planted, the greenhouse is thriving, and the energy is buzzing. We’re all so excited to begin the season next week, and we’re so grateful to have you with us this year.

Many blessings,

Chelsea and your Winter Green farmers
